Whether Peep was depressed or not, he made amazing music that anyone with an ear for melody can listen to.Feel free to discuss whatever you wish pertaining to the band, i.e. “When I die bury me with all my ice on,” is a common quote that Peep fans use in a depressing manner, but if you listen to the song, he’s saying that as much more of a flex, that he is going to get rich and take his jewelry to his grave. Peep’s most popular songs, Benz Truck, WitchBlades, White Tee, Save That Shit and the Brightside are honestly not depressing songs. I listen to ‘White Tee’ and ‘Yesterday’ whenever I want to get hyped up. The mixtape is truly wonderful all around, and you can listen to it no matter the emotion. Also, a side note I’d like to include, songs like ‘Yesterday’, ‘Nineteen’, ‘Big City Blues’, and ‘White Tee’ aren’t very depressing at all. Lil Peep had a knack for writing catchy pop songs, he took a scene that already existed, this ’emo rap’ (which is just guitar on trap beats with depressing lyricism) that was brought up from TeamSesh, ThraxxHouse, then GBC, etc. ‘White Tee’ is where I start to doubt myself as a musician and music journalist because for the life of me I cannot tell what instrument is being played or programmed in the Postal Service sample used for the White Tee beat. ‘Absolute in Doubt’ is very synth heavy and sounds like a Kesha instrumental chopped and screwed. ‘Lil Jeep’ has an eerie, child toy sounding piano accompanied by a dark, gritty bass. Most of these 11 track’s instrumentals main focus are the acoustic guitar loops, however, there are a select few that have no guitar at all. The trap influence is obvious with his use of the ‘skrt’ adlib most trap artists use when they reference cars. Listen to Lil Peep: Show more Lil Peep - 16 Lines (Official Video) 143M views 4 years. Peep comes in with a pop punk flow, with his signature layered vocals, with each layer complimenting an aspect of his voice, whether it’s his whiny, passionate scream vocals on one layer, or his tired, laid back, atonal delivery on another layer, it creates an intentional harmony that is so unique and satisfying to hear. 720K 43M views 2 years ago Lil Peep - crybaby from crybaby. It begins with a lightly distorted, reverb ridden guitar, with snaps and weird trap percussion all around. If you’re looking for a main example as for a track on CryBaby that sounds like the ‘point’ of the project, I’d immediately go for ‘ Ghost Girl‘. It’s like a pillow that was just washed with some beer stains on it. It’s a dark blue heaven and a light blue daydream. It’s laid back, soft, breezy, and feels like the sun is rising while simultaneously setting. That’s almost what I’d call the genre of CryBaby, xanax suburban. While Hellboy sounds like a Los Angeles fueled, coke sniffing frenzy with sexual flows and lush distortion CryBaby sounds like a long draw of a cigarette, sitting on the sidewalk in the suburbs as you watch the clouds in the sky. I was speechless upon hearing the change of pace. After listening to Hellboy for several days, I moved on to CryBaby. The name of the song intrigued me, and I was instantly blown away by the vocal mixing, and the beat seemed so unique to me. I remember listening to ‘Red Drop Shawty’. He looked dead inside yet his exterior looked full of life, vibrant almost. He was covered in tattoos, had messy, visually greasy pink hair, and looked away from the camera, down on the floor. He looked like a junkie who hadn’t showered in days. I saw the mixtape cover and was instantly intrigued. I remember a few days after Peep’s mixtape Hellboy dropped I discovered him. It’s been four years since Lil Peep‘s most iconic mixtape, CryBaby, was released to the world on SoundCloud.
